good morning friends around the world..i write to at least clarify some points here, especially sensitive posts that touched on religion..these are random thoughts and please feel free to comment...this talks about teachings of our catholic faith, hence, it is with the hope that it will clear doubts and will answer the questions of christians and non-christians who belong to other churches and faith... 1. on religion - again, when asked what your religion is all about, it is wrong to say that im catholic, or 7th day adventist or jehovahs witness...the religion, if we truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, is CHRISTIANITY...we only differ in church...there are those who posted that religion cannot save us...that it is a personal act...that is entirely false in our catholic faith..religion is necessary in our salvation...for example, if we want to go to Cebu City, we ride the plane or the boat so we can arrive there..in like manner, to go to heaven, religion is the instrument to get there... 2. on popes visit - there were plenty of bashers and haters commenting on how lavish, extravagant and pompous the preparations were, and how we, catholics worship and pray the pope, and there was even the negative comment of the sister of freddie aguilar - that the pope was demonic, which got the ire of many catholics...well, to put it straightly, we catholics believe that the Pope is the representative of Jesus Christ..you see, Jesus gave Peter, the first pope, the authority to rule and shepherd His flock before going back to heaven; this is in the bible: Peter was called the rock, on which Jesus will build His Church...and by giving Peter authority, we catholics believe that Gods will is manifested through him..this is the same authority that Peter gave to subsequent popes until now, in the person of Pope Francis...we DO NOT AND WILL NEVER WORSHIP THE POPE FOR HE IS NOT GOD, but a representative of God...let me make that clear..in like manner, we do not WORSHIP Mama Mary, we just venerate her and honor her in her great part and role in the salvation history...we have a teaching on mariology that where Mary is, Jesus is there, too, being Jesus Mother..she points us to Jesus, that is why in catholic churches, Mary is always a prominent figure because she points us to Jesus...she gives our prayers and supplications to Jesus...and that is all there is to it..and the statues and pictures are representative of Mary, the Mother of Jesus..we do not WORSHIP it.. 3. finally, there is no point in arguing which church is correct, and which church is wrong..sad to say that Protestants were the first to study the Holy Scriptures; but and but, it is the Catholic Fathers who were the first to have a methodology in 1943 called the historico-critico method; that is why the Catholics are the leaders today of Scripture Studies...because of this, we sometimes differ in conclusion and interpretation of the bible with the other christians... in the final analysis, if we are to be truly CHRISTIANS as what we claim to be, we should endeavor to work our salvation together...that is why ecumenism came about for us to look for our similarities and commonalities in faith instead of looking on our differences...if we are too study closely the gospel of John, we see that at its core is the teaching GOD IS LOVE...it does not speak of Gods characteristic or facet, it simply says GOD IS LOVE..it is His BEING...and there is the radical call of John for us to make a decision - - -should we be children of Light? or children of Darkness? Should we be children of this World, or children of Heaven? Should I choose Jesus or Not? NO IN BETWEEN...and John goes on to say that WE MUST MAKE THE DECISION NOW...TODAY..and we should be careful with it; for it has consequences tomorrow - - -it has an eternal consequence that may lead to eternal life or eternal damnation... may Jesus truth and love shine in all of us!
