had a nurse, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, give me my weekly allergy shots at the student health center when I was at MSU in the late 70s. She knew of my fondness for rock n roll, since I was a rock critic for the student newspaper at the time. I remember her consoling me the day John Lennon died. And I remember that she adored Elvis but didnt think much of Jerry Lee Lewis. Let me tell you the difference between Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, she said one day. When Elvis was a patient in the hospital, hed donate a new wing to the place after he was discharged. When Jerry Lee was a patient, WED have to rebuild the part of the wing that hed destroyed before he was discharged... He was a devil. But he was our devil... I imagine that nurse must be surprised to see that JLL is the last man standing at 79 years old. Whod have ever thought?
