happy 206th birthday Edgar Allen Poe, born this day 19th of January in 1809. Poe is one of the few lucky writers who managed to actually become a household name in literature - after his death. He is credited today with creating the detective genre in fiction with his short story The Murders in the Rue Mort where he introduced his detective C. Auguste Dupain and he is also basically a major influence for every single horror writer who came after..... Known for works such as The Raven, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, The Murders in the Rue Mort, Ligiea and many others Poe was influential when it came to weird fiction, in the 20th century H.P. Lovecraft (who himself went on to influence every horror writer who came after him..) lamented the fact that all of his work was either influenced by Poe or that of Irish writer Edward Plunket (Lord Dunsany - who actually went on to outlive Lovecraft oddly enough). Heres a an audio recording of my favorite Poe story The masque of the Red Death. https://youtube/watch?v=m4iqBU3X4Ro
