have a reader who wants comments on the following, in the comments i post my own thoughts! I believe in spanking. Now as a disclaimer allow me to add that spanking is always the last resort for me, but with that being said, I reiterate that I do believe in spanking. Today, I required that my two sons (ages 5 and 3) clean their room. All morning, each time I went past the room there were still toys, clothes, trash, books, shoes, etc. all over the place. So my first consequence was they were told they were not allowed to play with any toys until their room was clean. An hour later, the room still looked the same. I then told them that they were not allowed to watch any TV (Nick Jr.) until the room was clean. An hour later, the room was still a mess. I delayed lunchtime in spite of them claiming they were hungry because the room was still not clean. After eventually feeding them lunch around 2:30, I banished them to their room for an indefinite amount of time with the understanding that they were not allowed to exit until the room was clean. 2 1/2 hours later the room was still a mess. Finally, I came in and surprised the both of them with several openhanded swats on their behind then left the room for 15 minutes promising that upon my return they will get a second spanking if their room was still not clean. Voilà! Amazingly I returned to a completely tidied room and very proud boys. I was met with smiles and hugs as the boys proclaimed our room is clean Mommy! after an entire day of responses that just did not work. This re-affirmed my belief in the power of the use of spanking as a final resort for effective discipline but I would like to hear from any of my anti-spanking parent friends out there. What are your thoughts and how would you have dealt with todays scenario? PS I was not willing to do it for them or to guide the process as I was busy with my own household chores and was completely confident they knew exactly how to clean their own room but simply didnt want to.
