hello freshers! soo we’re gonna be posting #tipoftheday from time to time for the coming 3 weeks to get you all prepared for a new journey ahead. we’ll be introducing all sorts of stuff that we as freshers last year wanted to know before we depart for London. please feel free to inbox anyone in the committee if you want us to address anything or simply for a chat. so... here we go with the first tip! #tipoftheday #1 *** VISA *** Most of you should need this (unless you hold British passports) and should have been doing/done it by now - in case youre still not aware of this then DO IT asap or else you cant arrive at Imperial on time for the beginning of semester. Things youll need for your application: 1) Completed Tier 4 (students) application form & Appendix 8 2) your CAS (Certificate for Acceptance of Studies) number from IC, which appears on the Passport/Visa screen (under the Personal Details tab) on your Imperial e-service account. If you havent got it by now then either you havent filled in your passport details & uploaded a copy of it, or you should email/Imperial and ask around. but DO BOTH asap 3) Print out the page on eservice that includes your CAS number and take it to the visa interview *** ATAS (for certain engineering students) *** The ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) was launched on 1 November 2007. Under this scheme, all non-EEA students who need a student visa to come to the UK to do research or a Masters degree in certain subject areas, will be required to apply for ATAS clearance before applying for a Student visa. In January 2012 the scheme expanded to cover some of our MSci/MEng undergraduate courses. The ATAS requirement applies to anyone commencing one of the specified MSci/MEng courses from October 2012 onwards. PLEASE DO CHECK OUT IF YOURE REQUIRED TO APPLY FOE ATAS IF YOULL BE STUDYING ENGINEERING SUBJECTS. The application form: https://atas.fco.gov.uk/public/welcome.aspx For more details, please go to the college website link attached below. www3.imperial.ac.uk/international/studentsupport/visas/atas *** Police registration *** For those of you who need visas youll (probably) have to do a police registration too, in the Overseas Visitors Registration Office. No worries this will appear on the visa in your passport if youre required to - for details do visit uk govs link: https://gov.uk/register-with-the-police Be sure you wont forget this as you wont want to get into troubles with the UK police in your first week in uni! And stay tuned for our upcoming tips :D #PASSlove
