here is an update from the WPC ... Dear Friends This has come from a very reliable source in Ukraine. I have written to them today assuring them of our prayers both now and at our conference next week. Yesterday we spent the morning in our prayer room remembering our brothers and sisters both in Ukraine and Russia. We prayed for the political leaders on all sides, for wisdom, restraint and humility. We prayed for unity to break out amongst the body of Christ that would attract the presence of God and that through all the plans and manoeuvrings of man, His kingdom would come and His will be done. This is what our friend wrote A lot of what you see and hear on the news about Ukraine is affected by Russian propaganda. In his attempt to take control over Ukraine or at least part of it, Putin and his system tries to portray Ukraine as a divided nation, popular and generally peaceful revolution as a military coup, aggressive actions of pro-russian extremists in South-East Ukraine as majority opinion etc. I spent many hours for last two days on Internet, reading news and reports from all possible sources and I can’t even express my outrage at Russian propaganda and my deep sadness that so many people in Russia and other places believe it. You may think that I’m exaggerating but I can only compare Putin with Hitler, not even Stalin, and his actions in the beginning of WW2. As you know, propaganda was a major instrument that was used at that time too. Anyway, here is my perspective on the situation: •Ukraine is united now more than ever before, ad the patriotic, not nationalistic, spirit is high and growing. •Vast majority of Ukrainian citizens, not just Ukrainians and even most people in Crimea, are against Russian invasion and see it as occupation. •All churches in unity have acknowledged new government, opposed Russia’s actions and made a stand for sovereignty and unity of Ukraine. Today in addition to the statement that I sent you before all churches and religious organisations of Ukraine issued a new statement confirming the above. Even Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine condemned Russias actions and called to Putin and Kirril, the Patriarch, to remove Russian forces from Ukrainian soil, and I should note that this is very remarkable. •Putin is very aware of what I wrote above and he will try to do everything he can to change the situation and divide and conquer the nation. He will not stop before anything as he already proved it, so I ask you to please pray for God to protect our nation and stop the plans of the devil from happening. Please, feel free to put any and all of my opinions publicly. I know that we should be very wise in these turbulent times and only God knows what’s going to happen next, but after so many of my fellow citizens died for freedom from these dictators, Yanukovish and Putin, just 30 min drive from where I live, I want the world to know what’s really happening in Ukraine. As I continue to pray and think about it I believe that God will lead us through this tremendous challenge and Ukraine will have peace, unity, freedom and will be without orphans!
