here is my list .. 1. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre - TopicsExpress

here is my list .. 1. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas ( love both Burmese Version and English Version ) The translation of this book by Shwe Oo Daung is probably the best thing ever happened to me in my childhood even though I later realizes Shwe Ooo Daung skips some of the story in translated version. 2. Twenty Years After by Alexandre Dumas ( This is the second one in dArtagnan Romances series, equally long. ) This is also a great book even though not as popular as the first one. Will try to read the third book in the series (The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later,) when I have time. 3. Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong (Chinese Historical Epic ) ( This is a great story. Literally hundreds of characters. ) Aside from a great story line, it also shows what a great statesman. I like Cao Cao better than Liu Bei. Zhuge Liang is simply great. The Chinese today seems very different from those in the ancient time. May be communist party is the reason. Don’t know for sure. I am open to discussion about this one. ) 4. Civil Disobedience by Thoreau (It is just an essay. But, I feel obliged to put it here. Every Burmese should read it. ) Always gives me joy when I read “this American government” and it always translates in my mind as “This Burmese government.” 5. Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (This one is obvious. Everyone likes Sherlock Homes.) 6. Animal Farm by George Orwell. 7. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (This book is pretty interesting. I believe there is some truths in her arguments. But, I won’t claim to be Ayn Rand follower. I simply don’t understand her philosophy enough.) 8. Political Ideals by Bertrand Russell (This is certainly interesting book. It gave you many things to think about. However, I don’t think this irrational world will ever live up to Russell’s standards. ) ( I think Shwe Oo Daung and Russell are politically quite similar. Again, please feel free to discuss this if you feel I am wrong ! ) 9. The Works of Edgar Allan Poe. ( I have not read any long book by Poe. All I have read are short stories. ) In my humble opinion, Poe is probably the best at visualizing the storyline. Example, Telltale heart, The Black Cat 10. Autobiography by Shwe Oo Daung. ( This is the only Burmese book in the list. But, I think the honest contemplation of one’s life , along with great writing skills, are quite difficult to find. ) Looking at my list, I realize that I need to read more. It has been a long time since I have read any books that are not school related. :( #shameonme
