heres an old passage i wrote a few years back. still perplexing to me. "If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound/noise? Simply put, no. it makes no sound/noise. though, Yes, it makes a vibration. On the contrary to belief, a vibration does not become a noise until there is someone there to mentally recognize the sound (a "brain" to calculate the pressure changes in the air, with the hairs inside the ears, form a hypothesis, based from all data that is calculated by the brain during F(x,t) during the time period of the vibrations.) Ultimately the matter lies in how it is to be perceived by the observer. Now a deaf girl walks through the woods. she feels the ground vibrate underneath her feet. She looks around to see what happened. Was it an earthquake or did the tree 5 feet behind her, that is now sitting absolutely still on the ground, just fall over?" what say you??
