hey everybody. so today was childrens dayton hospital day for Zowie. lots of checks ups and testing, but very productive day. we were there from 9 am til almost 2, with about an 11/2 hr break for lunch. we started off with blood work in the lab, it just works out better to get it done the day of, better chances of them not losing the results and since Zowie has only overcome her hysterical fear of needles in the last 6 months, i would rather not have her have to have it done twice. WOW! that was a LOT of haves! lol! next we finally picked up her new glasses. we had her retested back in december when she started getting headaches again, along with blurred vision, twitching and sharp stabbing pains in her right eye. Dr. Bloom was great about getting us in right away, and her script had changed since august. we were supposed to go back for more thurough testeing just before christmas, but had to cancel, either she was sick or i was, cant remember. anyway, things got busy, her symptoms lessened and i forgot to reschedule. bad, bad mommy, i know, but sometimes things slip through the cracks of my mind. she loved her new glasses. they are her first dark pair, they were supposed to be leopard print, but i think they look more like camo, more green than the sample. anyway she likes them, thats what matters. now see just has to wear them like she is supposed to. talked to the receptionist about the missed testing and she was able to get us in @ 1pm. then we headed upstairs to the hematology dept to see dr. broxson. usually a long and stressful visit, but today they were running on time and we had fun cutting up with the staff. he says that her iron reserves are still at a 5, would like her to be at a 50, but her bloodcell counts are up, so that was a huge relief. we spoke at length once again about the lupus issue. for those of you who dont know, there is a history on my moms side of the family. i have had her tested a few times over the last few years whenever i am worried about symptoms she is showing. with the muscle and bone pain issues she has because of her cerebral palsy, as well as the blood issues she has had in the past are enough to warrent occasional testing with the family history of the disease. dr, broxson says that he is confident that that is not the issue she is having right now, but never hurts to keep it in mind is she starts showing anything else that could be lupus. so that is that. good news i would say. he think that the iron issue is most likely puberty related and prescribed her a different iron supplement than the one i was buying over the counter. along with those he wants her to eat more iron rich veggie(never a problem, only kid i know that loves spinich, lol) and eat more iron rich meats, this is a problem, she has never been much of a meat eater, but we will see what we can do with that. also he gave the go ahead to put her back on the ADHD meds, she was off because we wanted to make sure the hinky blood counts were not due to those or that they might make them worse. this is a good thing because she has been complaining about not being able to center or focus herself. alright, she sees dr. broxson again in june or july, yep i already forgot, will look at card when i put it in my new schedule book(trying to get organized). lets pray that she continues to improve. had some time to kill before going back to the eye doctor, so we went down the hall to the ADHD clinic, got caught up and joked around with the girls for awhile and they were able to get her into see susan our nurse practicioner on monday! usually takes at least 3 months to get in, so that was great. got the heck outta there while the gettin was good. had lunch at sonic, was .50 corndog day, had chocolate cherry dr. pepper slushies(Zowies pick), i do not recomend them. was nice at first, but as it got to the bottom was all sickly sweet chocolate flavoring, gross. ran to dollar general to get a few things. of course i got lost in the aisles, lol, so we skated into the parking garage right at 1. they took her right into do some pretty fancy tests and while they did that i managed despite sucking down several monster javas this morning, to fall asleep. waited for dr. bloom to come back from lunch, when he did the news was 50/50. her script had not changed since december - good, he says the drastic change was due to...tada...PUBERTY! - good. the twitching, pain and headaches, he saw nothing to indicate that they are related to her actual eyes - good? says they are probably neurological - uhg - not so good. he is sending all of the tests and records to her nuerologist in cincinnati, so i will be calling dr. lacates and dr. hershey tmrw to get her back in down there. crap, was hoping we were done with them except for yearly follow ups for the study she is in for her migraines. will also call dr. eberhart tmrw to get in to see what he thinks about all of this, and to see if he thinks we should start testing for m.s. as suggested by my uncle. neat thing we found out today. dr. eberrharts ugly mug is hanging in the main lobby at childrens, apparently he is now one of the chiefs of medicine there. kinda cool. think thats everything for now. will keep everyone updated. sorry to write a book, but so much easier than calling and testing everybody. will tag the people that i know are waiting for this info or might be interested. love you all!
