hockeysa.aus/National-Sec-Schools Day 3 results from the SSA 16 & Under Championships in Adelaide Girls NSW 1, d TAS 0 Best Players (TAS): All played well but in particular Nellie Paynter, Molly Haas, Camille OConor & Kacee Ponting. The girls started the game with a belief in themselves and a strong desire to win. The defence outletted the ball confidently in the first half which generated a number of scoring opportunities including the only PC for the half. Most NSW forays into attack (only two shots on goal) were thwarted by strong defensive play and a well setup press. In the second half the team came out strongly again until some dubious umpiring decisions caused a loss of momentum 15 minutes into the half creating a PC for NSW which resulted in a goal. To their credit, the girls continued to play strongly and an excellent work rate was evident across the field but particularly in the midfield. Nellie Paynter showed some great tackling skills and had some strong runs through the centre and Kacee Ponting made a number of crucial saves to keep the score unchanged to the end of the match. The match should have resulted in a draw for the girls but unfortunately they were unable to convert a number of circle penetrations particularly in the last few minutes of the game. Thanks to Tassie Manager Joan Wylie for the summary Boys TAS 2, drew VIC 2 Goal Scorers: Rhys Burgess, Linden McCarthy On day three the boys came within a whisker of defeating Victoria, having to settle for a 2-2 draw. Defender Liam Norris lost his footing in the circle and Vic comfortably scored the ensuing penalty corner before quickly doubling their advantage. An excellent reverse stick strike by Rhys Burgess reduced the deficit before half time. Tas dominated the second half possession with skipper Linden McCarthy and sweeper Robbie Chapman outstanding. Some exquisite stick skills from Oliver Smith ended in a penalty stroke being awarded, with McCarthy comfortably scoring from the spot. Smith would be played through on goal late on, but his strike sailed agonisingly wide of the mark as Tas were forced to settle for the draw. Thanks to Tassie Coach Adam Clifford for the summary
