hostile against the mushrikeen Shaykh Abu Muhammad al Maqdisi says: “There are some people who think that the actualization of the Millat Ibrahim in this era is being done by the mere studying of Tawheed and its three branches, and pondering over it theoretically - while being silent towards the mushrikeen, without announcing and displaying enmity to them and their shirk. So we say to the likes of these - If the Millat Ibrahim was like that - Why did his people throw him into the fire for it? He could have spoken kindly with them, and been silent with regards to their shirk. He wouldn’t have put the gods of his people to shame, nor would have demonstrated hostility towards them. It would have been enough for him to teach a “theoretical" Tawheed to his followers, which wouldn’t require any practical action, like Al-Wala (Alliance to anyone upon Tawheed), Al-Bugdh (Hatred towards the mushrikeen and their shirk), Al-Mu’adat (Hostility against the mushrikeen), Al-Hijran (Dissociating/Abandoning the mushrikeen)?" [Millatu Ibrahim, pg17.] Imam ‘Abdul Latif Ibn Abdur Rahman said, “It is not possible for someone to realize Tawheed and act upon it, and yet not be hostile against the mushrikeen. So anyone who isn’t hostile against the mushrikeen, then it can’t be said that he acts upon Tawheed, nor that he realizes it." [Ad-Durar As-Saniyyah 8/167]
