how can i describe the way ive been feeling about this place at this point? perhaps a metaphor: i was a happy little girl scout, out selling cookies in the august sun. my goals were high and my chin was even higher -- i was on a whole new street much bigger than the last. then i gave it my very all, more than i had ever given, going door to door giving my very best sales pitches (or whatever it is girl scouts do to sell). it was all a blur; all i know is that i sold all my cookies! so then, in late September, it was time to collect the dues. it was then that i looked to my records in dismay, for somehow i had managed to make hardly any money at all. all that effort to be strong, and i found that i had nothing to show for it. this street is a cruel street, indeed, i say to myself! a street that i would never disgrace myself to call home.
