https://allelsefailed.bandcamp/album/archetype Every band, or at least every band that has been around for a while, goes through a roller coaster ride of emotions, from how the members get along with each other, to how successful they may or may not be as a band, to what level they may or may not be operating on creatively. The interesting thing is that, in my experience at least, the many facets to the band operate almost entirely independent of one another. Going through a great creative stretch doesnt necessarily mean everyone is getting along. People really digging your band doesnt mean you are necessarily doing your best stuff. Everyone getting along great doesnt necessarily mean the shows are pouring in. As I look back on all of our old records, its interesting to remember where we were in each respective head space not only as a band but as people. Archetype is an example. We were probably never hotter as a band; every weekend there were great shows, touring was on the horizon, we had a functional label supporting us, etc, etc. That stuff was fun. I think I remember that era most fondly however because it was at a time when Steve and I were each going through tough times personally, which eventually lead to us briefly moving in together. There was really this sense that we had not much else to live for but the band. We bonded hard over that and we still make music together today. So for all of that good stuff happening, youd think we would like Archetype more, but it is definitely the black sheep of the discography. That is mainly because the original lineup had just fallen apart (and the lineup on this record was about to fall apart within a year) and it was the only record we did at a studio we didnt pick. Nothing against the studio but we were very much of our sound and I think it got a bit lost in translation here. I havent listened to Archetype in forever and upon further review I like it much more than I remember. I hope you do to, go download it for free or donation right here https://allelsefailed.bandcamp/album/archetype and get down to it!
