https://youtube/watch?v=BfYdx_Xk370 This is what my Uncle Fred did after he retired from the Air Force. He was with a Bird Singing group on the Barona Rez. Back in the old days, there was one big Kumeyaay reservation in that area called Baron Long and the Indians there were called the El Capitan Grande band of Mission Indians. Water source development flooded the area to supply the needs of a growing San Diego city and the band was broken up and dispersed to two reservations...todays Barona in Lakeside and Sycuan in the El Cajon area. My family settled off the reservations in the Alpine area near Old Tavern Road and up Rios Canyon near Lake Jenniings. I used to go hunting off of Old Tavern Road and never see any houses for acres and acres. My dad and I would wake up early, go pick some melons from the garden and eat them, and then wed head off into the rolling hills looking for rabbit. I shot my first rabbit when I was first back from Germany when I was six years old. Got him with a deflection shot as he was running left to right on high ground above my dad and me. My dad said it was a great shot because I led the target just right. There were times when wed come back with 10 or 12 rabbits, my dad would skin and dress them, and my Aunt Ramona would fry them with pan-fried potatos, pinto beans, and flour tortillas with lots of butter. Crap, no wonder Im diabetic now! LOL! Good times.
