Lets discover together some important yet simple things you can do to help prevent breast cancer. Over 180,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year. One woman in eight will develop breast cancer over the normal life expectancy. Just the words breast cancer tend to strike fear into nearly every woman/man but God did not give us a …spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We should not be frightened or discouraged over these statistics because we have power against this disease through Gods revelation knowledge. We not only have spiritual authority as believers, but we also have revelation knowledge of Gods healing provision in the plant kingdom that can give us power over breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute has estimated that simply making changes in dietary intake might prevent 60-70 percent of breast cancer cases. These are the top dietary changes you can make to help prevent breast cancer: Consume soy and isoflavones. The incidence of breast cancer in Asia, Mediterranean countries, and numerous other areas in the world are very low. Researchers believe the low rates of breast cancer in these areas are due, in large part, to the intake of soy products. As Asians began following a western-type diet, the incidence of breast cancer rose steadily. The phytoestrogens, known as isoflavones, in soy are actually cancer preventers. The isoflavones bind to estrogen receptor sites and actually guard against the development of breast cancer. Soy can be obtained as a soy-protein powder and used in drinks, and soy flour is available to use in a variety of ways. Of course, the traditional soy dishes such as tofu are also available, but are not as familiar to us in this country. Soy products that are fortified with calcium can also help prevent breast cancer cells from multiplying and dividing. You might also consider using soy milk on cereal. Soy products contain other natural chemicals such as protease inhibitors that inhibit cancer-promoting genes from being activated and saponins, which can stop cancer cells from multiplying. Include red clover. Perhaps an even better source of isoflavones is red clover. Red clover, containing four major isoflavones, appears to be a promising and effective method women can use to protect their bodies against the potential of developing breast cancer. Eat cold-water fish. Study after study demonstrates that people who eat more fish have lower rates of breast cancer. Part of this protection comes from omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, cod, mackerel, herring, trout, and sardines. The omega-3 fatty acids are really oils that the body can convert to a chemical known as prostaglandins. Certain types of protective prostaglandins keep breast cells from multiplying and dividing. Avoid fats that contribute to breast cancer. Other types of oils, such as saturated fats and other vegetable oils containing omega-6 fatty acids, may actually promote breast cancer. Polyunsaturated oils, like corn oil, may contribute to this also. These are easy yet effective steps you can take to help safeguard yourself against breast cancer-so start today! Protection from Breast Cancer - Part II This is the second article in our three-part series on protection from breast cancer. We want to remind you again that we should not be frightened or discouraged by the words breast cancer because we have spiritual authority as believers and revelation knowledge of Gods healing provision in the plant kingdom, which gives us power over this dreaded disease. Lets continue to discover how some very simple things that God has provided can help you prevent breast cancer. Know your family history. Patients with a strong family history of breast cancer, or unusually thick breast with increased amounts of fibrous tissue, might want to consider taking omega-3 capsules daily. A study published approximately two years ago in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute indicated that taking fish oil capsules increased the concentration of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) in breast tissue. Canola oil, walnuts, and flaxseed are some of the natural sources that are also effective for this purpose. Add kiwi fruit to your diet. Who would ever think that kiwi could play a role in protection from breast cancer? The Journal of the American College of Nutrition ranked kiwi as the most nutrient-dense of all fruits. It provides vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium and is also proving to be a good source of dietary fiber. Studies show that vitamin C can inhibit breast cell division, thus reducing the risk of breast cancer. Kiwi supplies twice the level of vitamin C that oranges provide. These facts indicate that kiwi would be an excellent addition to your diet. Eat ten almonds and five prunes a day. For some time we have recommended adding nuts to your daily dietary intake. Approximately ten salt-free almonds a day can offer numerous health benefits. Because they are a rich source of vitamin E, they have a role in preventing breast cancer. Laboratory studies show that vitamin E decreased the incidence of mammary tumors that formed after exposure to cancer-causing substances. It actually prevented the cancer cells from developing and provided a killing effect on the cells after they developed. I like to put the almonds in a glass jar with a tight lid to prevent exposure to the air and potential oxidation of the almonds. My wife Linda and I like to consume the almonds with five prunes daily. Prunes have turned out to be a medical super fruit in the fight against cancer. A study from Tufts University in Boston ranked dried plums (prunes) six times more effective than broccoli and eight times more effective than red grapes at combating tumor-causing agents. The study indicates that the antioxidant power increases dramatically in people who have eaten prunes. Research further indicates that because of the prunes remarkable ability to absorb oxygen-free radicals, they may also help retard the aging process in the body as well as in the brain. Eat oranges. There are some unique chemicals in citrus fruits, and especially in oranges, that fight breast cancer. Hesperetin and naringenin prevent cancer cell division and also help neutralize cancer-causing chemicals in the body. Another chemical found in oranges, limonene also has potent cancer-fighting properties. Take the initiative in your fight against cancer. Protection from Breast Cancer - Part III This is the third and final part of our series on protection from breast cancer. We will continue exploring some simple yet very effective things you can do to help prevent breast cancer. As believers, we have spiritual authority and revelation knowledge of Gods healing provision in the plant kingdom, which gives us power over breast cancer and the fear that commonly goes with it. Lets look at some of the ways we can take advantage of Gods good plan. Include plenty of fiber in your diet. Add a tablespoon of psyllium to your diet daily to lower your risk of breast cancer. A study of over 50,000 women in Canada revealed that those who ate the most dietary fiber had a 30% lower risk of breast cancer than those who ate the least amount of fiber. Laboratory studies show that consumption of psyllium and wheat bran resulted in a lower rate of tumor development. Other fibers, such as wheat bran, tend to bind cancer-causing agents in the GI tract and keep them from being absorbed. Generic psyllium husks or orange flavored psyllium supplements (which I prefer) are readily available and should be included daily in your diet. Other good sources of fiber include fruits and vegetables in general, and particularly the skins or peels of fruits such as apples. Pinto beans are also a good fiber source, as are kidney beans. When buying flour or bread products, whole wheat is the best choice. Cook with olive oil. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats, which have great heart benefits as well as cancer-protecting benefits. The oleic and steric acids in olive oil help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Olive oil can be used alone on salads or mixed with vinegar as a simple dressing. Eat cabbage and broccoli. God created a chemical compound known as indole-3-carbinol that reduces the bodys production of certain types of estrogen that can lead to breast cancer. Studies conducted at Cornell University Medical College reveal that these indoles also stop human breast cancer cells dead in their tracks. To get this protective substance, you should eat cabbage, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. Add yogurt to your diet. Yogurt contains high amounts of calcium, which can inhibit the division of breast cancer cells. Yogurt also stimulates gamma interferon, which helps fight cancer by enhancing immune-system functions. Take vitamin A. Beta carotene is an excellent source of vitamin A. I recommend taking 15 mg of beta carotene as a dietary supplement. Studies consistently show that populations consuming the most vitamin A have the lowest levels of breast cancer.
