https://youtube/watch?v=Uxa9qGAVTUQ Go to 1:54 of this YouTube presentation to hear this lovely section of the Clarisse cue starting Bar 5 (muted strings only). This is one of my favorite cues. Scene: Montag leaves the fire station and embarks on the monorail journey back home. Most of the riders there are rather narcissistic. He watches a girl next to a window blowing her breath on the pane. A young woman (Clarisse) is nearby watching Montag and shortly strikes up a conversation with him. Usually clear chords here but at points not so clear tonalities up for debate.Bars 5-6 shows the clear Db maj (Db/F/Ab) chords, and Bar 7 presents the simple C major (C/E/G) chord. Now: Bar 8 (2:07 in the video) is either the D min 7th (D/F/A/C) OR, more likely given the lovely nature of this chord, the F major 6th (F/A/C/D). The base note in this bar is the Great octave F dotted half note played by the lowest celli, so I would think thats the indication for the F maj 6th. But remember both chords play the exact same notes in a different arrangement. If played on the root position you can hear the subtle difference. Ambiguity there shared with the minor 3rd compared with the major 6th but both are rich and mellow. Make your pick! Bar 9 is back to the Db major. Bar 10 is D minor (D/F/A). Mar 11 is Ab major (Ab/C/Eb). Bar 12 is F minor (F/Ab/C). Bar 13 is either the D min 7th or F maj 6th. Once again the lowest tone of the celli is F so I will pick F maj 6th as the intended chord considering the niceness of the music. End Bar 14 is either D half-dim 7th (D/F/Ab/C) or, most likely I think, F minor 6th (F/Ab/C/D). Exact shared notes but different feel. Once again the lowest tone is the Great octave F note. Ambiguity here once again but the 6th tends to make it less unresolved to my mind. It instills more the brightness of the major third interval but still there is a bit of edge there (mild). Im not a musicologist or academic so maybe they would think differently....
