https://youtube/watch?v=WvHmhN9xnFw Well, now we come to the second film that was ever released in the WDC series. Well after Robin Hood was released in 1984, there was some debate on what to release as the second title in the WDC series for summer 1985. There was discussion that The Sword in the Stone would follow up as their next WDC title for that slot because like yesterdays film, it was a box office hit, but wasnt received well as critics, so they thought that would be another one not so risky to release, but newer people like Michael Eisner insisted on Pinocchio because it did very for its Christmas 1984 theatrical re-issue. The newer people werent sure about this because as of that time, it was one of the more popular films, and releasing it on VHS would risk it away from theatrical revenue. However, the newer people convinced them that it wasnt making any money sitting in the vault, and so what that, they released it on VHS on July 16th, 1985, and it became the second WDC title ever released. The result was that it was one of the best selling titles on home video, and it convinced Disney to release their films on VHS for good. That goes to show you why else I loved this film. Robin Hood may have started the series, but this is the one that convinced them to release all their films on VHS. Perfect timing for birthday, as you all knew that regardless on what week it was, that this was coming. So obviously, my favorite film is the new film in our 30th anniversary tribute to the WDC series and 1984 WDC logo, and thats Pinocchio. My favorite film for many reasons. It has beautiful animation, great characters, memorable songs, strong message, exciting climax, and some powerful scenes too, which are not only emotional, but very dark, as well. This film is what we call an emotional experience, and it shows it too. Pleasure Island is often considered one of the darkest moments in movie history, and you can see why here too. For this time, not everything did out alright in the end. The Coachman got what he wanted in the end, the boys cant talk anymore, and they dont get saved in the end either. It goes to show you what can happen, if you dont follow the rules, or dont have a conscience, and they have to show you in the darkest manner possible. When it was released, it proved to be even more superior than the first film made Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Its where everything they couldnt do in that film, they did here. Walt Disney was after one thing in the execution in this film, and that was perfection. Its the best way to describe this film. Theres not a movie like it, and theyll never be either. Its simply put, the greatest masterpiece that Walt Disney ever made. Enjoy! Oh, and to learn some more facts about this films original VHS release, take a look at this promo sales tape, and youll learn something you never knew before.
