https://youtube/watch?v=XLCei0Du4jw No, he didnt kill my son . . . but he could have ... and seemed to be itching to! Sheriff Deighton presented himself as an extreme bully, as you will see from this video. THE DETAILS (AND WHAT IS NOT SHOWN ON THE VIDEO): My son, John, was at the Horseshoe Casino in August, 2014. John attempted to sit at the table you see in the video, but the man to his left told him that seat was taken, so John moved to another table. He later came back to this table and the seat was still empty. He sat in the seat and words were briefly exchanged (with no anger, no loud voices, no swearing--in fact, John said it was likely the two would have become friendly) because the man to the left wanted to keep that seat open. The casino was crowded, this was the only seat left open and, actually, its not acceptable, by the rules of a casino, to keep a seat open merely because a person doesnt want to have anyone sitting next to him.. Soon after, the security guard came to the table and told John he had to leave. As you can see, John, feeling all was fine at the table, was not even aware that he was being asked to leave, John finally asked, Leave the table or leave the casino? The security guard said, Leave the casino now! [Note: John went to Vegas when he was 21 years old to see what it was like to deal blackjack. He was hired and was promoted to pit boss after a short time, the youngest pit boss in the history of that casino. After two years, he tired of the life in Vegas and returned to Cleveland. But he knows how casinos work and he knows that if you are told to leave, you must leave immediately. So he got up, grabbed his chips and cell phone, tipped the server and left the table, intending to leave the casino immediately.] Deputy Kennneth Deighton Sr followed John and hurriedly caught up with him. Please note at timecode 1:26 where Deighton does the fingers-to-the-eye and then pointed to John. To me, that means, Look at what Im about to do. I could be wrong--would love to know his reason for this fingers-to-the-eye movement. At 1:34, he caught up with John and intentionally stepped on Johns heel. It is hard to see that but Johns attorney blew up the actual video and it is clear that Deighton stepped on Johns heel. John then turned around to see what was going on, at which point, Deighton grabbed him, pulled out his TASER and pushed John against the wall to handcuff him. You can see John talking to the female cop. He was asking her to please not leave him alone with Deighton. She said she would not. He kept asking her to promise because he already knew he was being bullied and feared for his safety. She promised she would stay with him. And this was before John even knew there was a taser being held to his back. As a mother, I was literally shaking and nauseated watching this video, knowing that someone can have a heart attack after being tasered. And here was this bully itching for the chance to demonstrate his power. Thank goodness for the female cop. And thank goodness for video (obtained by Johns attorney) to show SOME of what transpired that night. THE REST OF THE STORY: John was taken to jail and released four hours later. He was given a preprinted paper to sign which would absolve all charges of disorderly conduct. But there was a statement with a checkmark already checked, stating that this was a No Contest. John would not sign because he was not guilty of disorderly conduct. This then led to a court hearing with Judge Anita May. Again, he was offered to be absolved of all charges if he would take a class. As John said, Take a class in what, walking faster to leave a casino? And again he would not agree to the class because that would indicate he had done something wrong. John has always spoken out against bullying--he has always talked to his children about bullying. He was bullied that evening. No, he wasnt killed, but he could have been. Something must be done about the systems that allow incompetent, power-hungry, sick people in power and then allow them to stay in power. Yes, not just what happened to my son but what happens regularly in this country. I know how I feel about what happened to John and also know I cannot BEGIN to imagine the grief experienced by mothers whose children were killed by these same incompetent, power-hungry and sick people.
