I understand the death of a human being is far more tragic than the loss of property. But I do feel only the handful of people there that day can ever know what occurred with certainty when Michael Brown died and if Darren Wilson was justified or not. However, the issue of Civil Asset Forfeiture is one in which the police are completely in the wrong, and almost all Americans respond with legitimate outrage when confronted with the facts on this form of theft by police across America. Our Constitution guarantees that we are all innocent until proven guilty and thus cannot be deprived of our life, liberty, or property without due process. But the cops pull out Civil Asset Forfeiture can can charge your property and not YOU with a crime. Your property, unlike yourself, is guilty until proven innocent and cops can use the funds generated to fatten their budgets. This is how we get cases like United States v. $124,700 in U.S. Currency. How is this not blatantly Unconstitutional? If people want to fix the many cases of police misconduct across America why not focus on low-hanging fruit like this first?
