https://youtube/watch?v=a4Y7IUByBkU Now that the weekend is upon us, I am going to dedicate these last three days to the first three of Henrys wives while still posting about important Tudor events that happened on these days. Today I start with the Seymours. Ever since I could remember, everything inside of me, Just wanted to fit in I was never one for pretenders, Everything I tried to be, Just wouldnt settle in... I feel this song fits the Seymours very well who I will start with after this post. In their time they were hailed as saviors for their good qualities, yet as time went by and people realized that all the negative propaganda against Anne was false, they sought to vilify them because what better way to rescue someone than vilify the other side? Its not healthy, it is a very good Victorian technique, make your characters Mary or Gary Stus while make the others foils so they can shine. Anne was innocent of everything she was charged and history treated her horribly and she was an incredibly, intelligent, outspoken, witty woman who deserves full praise and who will continue to inspire the best feeling in us for centuries to come but Jane doesnt fall far behind. Jane was not witty as Anne or intellectual as her or their predecessor, Katherine of Aragon who until recently has been rescued. If I told you what I was, Would you turn your back on me? And if I seem dangerous, Would you be scared? I get the feeling just because, Everything I touch isnt dark enough If this problem lies in me ... I feel like we want so bad to have a heroine or hero in our lives so we dont face the horrors that are going on right now, and thats fine. As a child I understood why people needed heroes. And its fun ... for a while. When you reached a certain age you realize there is no such thing as a hero or heroine. Why not? Because they are boring, because they are perfect, because they tell us how we can be and how we will probably never be and they paint the world in a black and white scenario that makes it easier for us to understand but that its not real. There were horrible things happening in this period and no one was without prejudice, but amidst all of that, there were also great intellectuals, courtiers, kings and queens who in one way or another did a difference. Some lost, some won. A monster, a monster, Ive turned into a monster, A monster, a monster, And it keeps getting stronger As the Seymours get seen more and more as the anti-Christ, I feel like the Tudor period is becoming more and more caricaturesque with those of us who want to study all of them getting bullied by the black and white versions that some fans prefer over the real ones. I think the Seymours have become monsters and pariahs and they are likely to continue to be, if not become ambitious, cold hearted, and Jane nothing more than a stupid woman who had blood on her hands for killing the savior of the renaissance world. There are many people in my life that I admire and ancestors that I do, some more than others, but I am not ignorant to their flaws or the world they lived in and why they did the things they felt they had to do, as wrong as these actions were.
