Only thing missing is their entrance where they would run in with two huge hoops covered in paper with the names Wells and the Four Fays and two of the cousins will dive through the paper to open up the act. The little man, done by my aunt Christine was originally done by my uncle Billy (the act was originally called Billy Well’s and the Four Fay’s) until he passed away. The boxing dance was originally created by my mother and her brother Pat. After she left the act to have me, the cousins Shirley and Susi alternated in taking over my mother’s spot. They were on Ed Sullivan twice. The 2nd time they only did half the act. The Ed Sullivan show was running late(this was live TV) because of the chaos of The Beatles appearing on the very same TV show. Ed Sullivan was the 2nd highest rated show on television. Only surpassed by “I Love Lucy” In the tradition of many Vaudevillian acts, the concept and the music stayed the same over the years. Only the tattered costumes were replaced when needed. This act was exactly the same as when I first saw it standing on the side of the stage at the Loew State Theater in New York in the early 40s as well as when I saw it LIVE in my living room television on The Ed Sullivan Show in the early 60s.
