Season three of The Wire was entirely an allegorical statement to the Iraq War which was at its peak of chaos at the time. Pushing aside the obvious message of gentrification within our urban society, lets take a look at the symbolism and metaphoric clues in this scene. The towers that were going down represented the Twin Towers of 9/11. They even went down similar to how the Twin Towers went down. The mayor applauding an end of an era paralleled President Bushs Mission Accomplished platform. Even the implied message of a false flag by the mayor PRETENDING to detonate the implosion of the towers when it was really another group staged for the detonation speaks VOLUMES. Bodie & Poot represented the Iraqi citizens and how they are now displayed after the takeover. Bodies message of the government taking over their dormain for profitability is important to note as well. And finally, the overbearing bowl of dust that spreaded everywhere. Thats the foreshadowing of the madness and chaos that was ONCE contained spreading all over and out of control...precisely as it did in the Iraq War. And people keep questioning me why THE WIRE is the greatest show ever made.
