He knew what he meant by it, but I didnt. He invented the concept and I had to keep listening until I heard the words in my mind and in the melody. If I do say so myself, its a lovely sentiment. Although well known by the older jazz and studio musicians still around, Bobby remains in a typically Canadian way, largely unknown. There is a single You Tube that doesnt begin to display his talent. Chet Atkins was greatly impressed by Bobbys playing, as he was by that of Lenny Breau. There are at least eight or nine other recorded tunes we wrote that are largely forgotten too. The back story to this song in particular is that having written it just after Heather My Love I was confident Id get my chance to record the next male vocal CTL album. What happened instead was that I was rejected then in favor of an artist recently immigrated from across the pond! My reaction was to immediately resign from CKFM. In consideration of the fact that CTL was funded by our parent company Standard Broadcasting, it was the only way I could express my contempt and disgust. Did I forgive what I consider a betrayal? Of course! One must forgive. No matter what happened, after so many years its still a lovely song, and who knows....
