We went ice skating, then we watched an ice hockey game and then ate dinner at Pizza Hut. It was a fun family day. In addition to having a memorable day with Wendy Martin, Hope Martin, Eve Martin , Joy, Grace and Melody, I learnt the following 6 lessons..... 1) Face Your Fears: Just because you have never done something before, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it. Sometimes, you just have to get on with it. Life is a lot more fun and you learn faster when you just get on with it. 2) Sometimes You Will Fall: Yes you will fall that is inevitable when starting out. Falling doesn’t mean that the game is over. As long as you get up again, you can keep playing. 3) Gain Belief From Watching Others: As I was watching other people skate fast and spin beautifully, I realised that they too started out where I was. They were beginners once, hesitant and holding the sides for support. If they can do it, then with practise and determination, I can do it too. 4) Learn From Others: You can learn from those more experienced that yourself, if you ask them. I stopped and spoke to a couple of good skaters and asked them what quick tips they can give me when starting out. 5) Laugh At Yourself: Be light hearted, you will never be perfect, have fun, make a few mistakes but skate your heart out for the first time and then every time. Live life to the full. 6) The Law of Attraction: Look where you want to go. This is the big one in skating and in life. Don’t look down to where you are, don’t look back to the past, but look forwards, with a clear focus. When skating, I noticed that whenever I looked down, I wobbled and fell, but when I looked forwards and focused on my goal, my destination, 9 times out of 10, I got there.
