i Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Saturday, April 12 VERY INTERESTING! On Baby Massage Day I thought that I would share a calming massage that soothes a colicky baby that comes from the world of ancient Ayurvedic healing techniques. You can use essential oils with this massage or simply enact the actual massage itself. If you choose to use pure essential oils you will need to blend six drops of chamomile along with six drops of lavender into a quarter cup of grapeseed, olive or jojoba oil. Take a bit of the oil and put it on the bottoms of babys feet and with a firm stroke, massage from heel to toes. This is counterintuitive to how one might normally massage from the toes down. But this action of stoking from heel to toe will calm the autonomic nervous system and also allow for the expulsion of gasses in babys belly. This is a tremendously powerful technique for calming a crying baby.
