i am consistently surprised by how patriarchy shows up again and again. how in moments of frustration or confusion, i and those i love fall so easily into ways of being that are prescribed by patriarchal systems. i am still learning how to get free from this, but if there is one thing i do know its that it hurts us all. the expectations it places on those who identify as male can be just as harmful as the expectations it places on those of us who identify as female. [Patriarchy] implies a social system of male power that is exercised not only through dominance, but also through benevolence and protection, even love. I’m here to argue that we must keep tackling patriarchy if we are to fashion a more equitable world... And we cannot fight these as solo battles, we must do so collectively- as shared histories, and shared futures. ~Ananya Roy
