i am seeing some rather disappointing misinformation and opinions based thereon expressed regarding the central american children who have suddenly descended upon us. i have seen people say that some of them were sent by parents who could no longer take care of them and that those parents should not have children if they cannot support them. this is untrue. about half of the people who have arrived at our border, and were apprehended there, were children whose family members have been killed and who are escaping being killed themselves. they are not being sent because their folks are irresponsible. one little girl described how her brother was murdered by gang members when he refused to join them. she came to avoid being raped (but was unsuccessful: she was raped on her way here). the other half are families with children, escaping together, and thus disproving again that the families in question are irresponsoible. in addition, these are not immigrants. they are REFUGEES. there is a legal difference, on top of the differences in actual immigration agreements the usa has with various countries. these are not mexicans. their respective countries have different agreements, but even if they didnt, refugee status is quite different. america does not send refugees back to their deaths. well, okay, we have done so: look up the saint louis (the ship, not the cities). but we supposedly dont, anymore. i have also heard people say go back to mexico (see above for how wrong that is) and we like children but were afraid of diseases (such as xenophobia and racism?) according to public news service, Everard Meade, director of the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego says These children are screened by staff for the Department of Health and Human Services.... Theyre not moving kids who are carrying infectious diseases around the United States. Its absurd. HHS and the CDC will tell you they have no credible reports from any of the shelters or detention facilities that theres any widespread infection or infectious diseases. if that shameful town, murrietta, california, is full of heartless, ignorant people, there are other towns who are not. san diego is putting up 95 of the unaccompanied kids in an ex-nursing home. nbc news says In McAllen, Texas, more than 20 doctors have been volunteering their time to care for the mostly women and children who came across the border illegally and are awaiting transfer to other federal facilities in the north for processing. And Catholic Charities set up a center near the bus stop where undocumented immigrants are given a chance to shower, to receive clothing, and to rest before the trip. so it is not an absolute requirement, in order to be a true american, to be a heartless, ignorant creep. one can be the former without descending to the latter. to those of you operating on misinformation: maybe youre not trying to be creepy. good! so now... get your facts straight before you speak, okay? g
