i can see clearly now the rain has stopped: all day yesterday it rained here in Squamish and it brought home memories galore of years spent in Vancouver, those years where my liberal arts education in heady times [late 1960s] fused with my practice of law and the realization of something changing in the 1980s. so in the face of that rain, watching salmon confidential (2012) with ali, the abuses of the political right in the name of supposed truths (such as the economy is everything mentality) fused with my long thought and increasing awareness of those abuses. while reading the great turning by david korten, now i think of another song as i head back to the interior where i now call home: here comes the sun! what this book talks about i have spoken about over the years, but korten puts together a synthesis which should be required reading for every person in the western world who was born say after 1970. the lies perpetrated upon the citizens of north america by the concerted efforts of the rich and privileged, all in the name of greed and power, are incredible. the cover-up of the abuses of the corporate fish farming in the name of the economy and the reputation or our canadian superior reputation is just an example of that abuse. so now, hopefully it is clear and increasingly warmer there amongst the hills leading to those fabled interior mountains where those who skin enjoy the majesty of the great outdoors in the mountains especially after last weeks dump of snow which had antoine (louis great friend from quebecs eastern townships, now also staying with ali and louis) and his family who were so excited at coming from quebec to ski in the selkirks. so as i head home louis and antoine will head out on their bicycles for a bit of coastal beauty in the overcast but now rain free day here, while the rest of us still face the winter that is only now receding in the rest of the country. what an amazing country. however, we cant let that fact divert us from what is so painfully obvious, we have deceptive and disgusting leadership both provincially here in b.c. and even moreso in ottawa.
