i deliberately changed the names of the mother and son in this note i received as she (the mother, my friend) may not want either her or her son to be identified. nevertheless, it is a powerful picture of what normal feels like in Israel. i have changed NONE of the text. I just spoke to Dovie for 20 minutes after 10 days of no contact because hes been inside Gaza! They let them off for 24 hours (no visitors allowed on the army base) to shower and eat and sleep. He said that if people are buying for the soldiers, the best items to buy are baby wipes and Purell hand sanitizer and energy bars and granola bars (in other words, no sweet stuff and junk food). He says a lot of guys have gotten diarrhea from eating with dirty hands. He sounds great, pumped up to do his job and protect Israel and the Jewish people. Theres a lot he cant say, so I dont know much more. Im so happy and relieved to have heard his sweet voice, there are no words. May Hashem continue to watch over him and each and every other soldier. We have to keep davening and asking Hashem for protection. Its not over and the Jewish people all over the world need His protection now more than ever.
