i do tell my daughter that she is beautiful; because she is! - TopicsExpress

i do tell my daughter that she is beautiful; because she is! Alyssas response is every mum thinks their daughter is beautiful and i say yes thats right! . But other than that we talk about how its her body and others shouldnt touch her ... only mummy if something is wrong and she is not well or if mummy takes her to the doctors (and of course stays with her ... she is 5). We talk about eating healthy food and doing healthy things like swimming, dancing and sport. I am over weight and she has pointed it out to me and i have told her that she should never say things about other peoples bodies as it makes them sad; especially if they can do very little about it like mummy (i live with chronic pain and have polycystic ovary syndrome, arthritis etc etc ... falling apart). She hears me saying positive things to my dance students and to others out in the community and i have heard her do the same. Hopefully, the way we are doing it is right. So far i am happy with how my little girl thinks about herself and others. Today she had a lesson at sports day when she said oh mummy i didnt win and i said its not about winning Alyssa, yes it feels nice when we do win, but its not all about winning and then told her its about participating, having fun with your friends and having a go she said really and smiled and ran back to her friends. So i think we are doing ok.
