i earn about £8.60 an hour; i am one of the better paid support workers; i need to work about 50 hours a week to have a decent living; its not the fault of my employer who can only pay what the government pays them.Care staff are probably the most dedicated; skilled; kindhearted employees you are likely to meet. in the care sector you are paid according to the pecking order; starting off with doctors; working down through nurses to the lowly support worker; yet almost always; it is the support worker that takes overall responsibility for someones loved one; from personal care to administering medication and contributing to the overall welfare of some of societys most vulnerable people. Sadly some of the publics perception of a care worker is this patient soul that accompanies somebody out on outings; yes that is part of it; what they dont see is the times; a cuddle is required or a kind word; it is a vocation it must cos we dont do it for the money
