i have a story to share... ordinarily, i wouldnt have posted it, but it lines up so well for Pentecost Sunday today. thursday i was looking thru our bookshelf for a bible to give someone, & found an Evidence Bible we had never used (the one kirk cameron & ray comfort put out). we like how they use the old testament law in evangelism, on their show, to reveal to people why they need a Savior, so we thought it would be a good one to give. but as i started out the back door with it, the Spirit of God said to me Look at Acts 2 in that Bible. ....i turned to Acts 2, a VERY important chapter in the Word of God, as it regards the Holy Spirit... there were no study notes for the first half of the chapter at all, but also, lo and behold, on the opposite page, there was a supplemental article inserted there about how to draw a crowd for street-preaching... one of their suggestions was to ask trivia questions, including who was john lennons first girlfriend. ... -___- ......really??? they not only ignore what Jesus Christ is telling us to do in these first two chapters of Acts, where He commanded them to wait for the promise of the Father... and ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me (1:4,8), but in its place, they encourage techniques of crowd-psychology (the ways of man, not God), and use questions regarding fleshly/carnal pop-culture, to boot! needless to say, i went & found a different bible to give to the person. the Evidence Bible does have some good things in it, but this critical factor was a deal-breaker for me. the Holy Spirit is not Someone to toy with, dismiss, or take lightly. the second half of Acts 2 shows the effectiveness of GODs method of evangelism as demonstrated by the Apostle Peter... being filled with the Spirit of God. our day-to-day witnessing might not always be as dramatic a scenario as Peters was on the Day of Pentecost, but if we allow His Spirit to work through us, He will draw the people to Himself. :)
