i jumped into the icy-black pool of water without any knowledge of its depths. as my feet hit the bottom there was nothing solid, only the sensation of velvety smooth mud. i started to sink through the mud and i never stopped. i sank and i sank and i started to panic. how was i ever going to make it back to the surface of the water? was i going to drown? then i remembered i was dreaming. i remembered death was not something to fear but something to be embraced. i became peaceful and accepting of my continual silken slide through the void of nothingness. i thought of some hindu teachings i had read months ago concerning birth and death and transcendence. i started to chant the hare krishna mantra. at this point my descent gradually slowed until i came to a complete stop. i then started to ascend back up through the mud while completely lost in the mantra. this seemed to last forever until finally i smashed up through the water and woke up. my cat was next to me, purring contentedly and looking at me with brilliant eyes of infinite wisdom.
