i just heard an eloquent analogy to the structure of the universe which helps explain the mystery of dark matter/energy. if you understand fractals, then imagine an infinite tree. branches upon branches ever smaller yet similar branches of an infinite tree. the higgs field would be that tree of our universe. what we can see and measure are simply leafs on that tree which we can observe. so look at a tree in full bloom and subtract the wood holding it up and you have our visible universe. i will have nightmares tonight for sure!
