i know i have told this story many times, so ill make this one short...the film that reminds of me of my past has to be saving mr. banks.. as ive mentioned before, not too long after i saw mary poppins, i wrote walt disney a letter asking for a sequel...at the time, there were an awful lot of p.l. travers books out there and i thought it would be no problem to make another...at 12 years old, i didnt realize what you have to go through to make a film...i was so excited when i got a postcard back with a picture on the front promoting their next dick van dyke film, lt robinson crusoe... on the back was the typed message that there wouldnt be another mary poppins film and to check out their newest film...i was so disappointed and hurt that for a while i didnt want to have anything to do with disney... all in all, saving mr. banks finally explained why there wasnt a sequel and could never be a sequel...emma thompson gives a standout performance as p.l. travers although, i couldnt grasp tom hanks as disney....if you are a disney or mary poppins lover, do not miss this one... btw. there is a short cartoon included on the 50th anniversary of mary poppins called the cat that looked at a king, a chapter from travers next book, mary poppins opens the door.. so there is a happy ending...i did get my sequel, short as it was
