i know this is a bit over the top, but appears that neither ofcom nor channel five/big brother are making any comment ....so i sent this to my mp Dear Sir, on Friday 15th of August, channel five viewers witnesses Helen Wood win the big brother programme. During the ten weeks previous Miss Wood became the subject of complaint by the viewing public and it was speculated that she had ‘special treatment’ during the tv programme. 1. Miss wood was given a free pass to the final on the second evening of the show, this was the first time a contestant had had this privilege. 2. Ofcom received over 1500 complaints about Miss Wood bullying fellow contestants, and her aggressive behaviour toward them. 3. Miss Wood was given 14 warnings by the show’s producers, in the past contestants have been removed from the house for similar behaviour and after two warnings. 4. Toward the end of the series, Miss Wood was given special treatment in that she was shown other contestants discussing her, and editing and discussion on channel five was blatantly shown to present Miss Wood in a better light. 5. During the last five minutes of voting the runner up and second runner up had, according to reports from viewers, no access to their voting phone lines via either telephone or app, whilst Miss Woods voting line had no reports of this nature. It was stated by channel five that the difference between the runner up and Miss Wood was 1.3% of the vote , so I would assume that this ‘glitch’ reported by viewers made a huge difference. 6. It is widely reported that Miss Wood was paid £30k to enter the competition, before winning the eventual £100k. 7. Miss Wood is represented by Northern and Shell which has links to channel five and the big brother programme. 8. TV advertisements before and during the final showed Miss wood appearing in certain gossip magazines, also owned and published by Northern and Rock, this before she had actually won the competition. 9. Social media has been inundated with comments about fixing, and even on the evening of the final the presenter Emma Willis made the comment to viewers who had made these observations to ‘get over yourselves’. This comment has been the only comment or response from channel five or the big brother programme. 10. Terms and conditions for voting are ambiguous but do say that voting may be halted for contestants at any time and that the tv programmes decision is final. All in all it would appear that the viewing public were asked to pay to vote in a contest which was manipulated to the end. In previous examples of this nature tv programmes have offered an explanation and in many cases been instructed to refund viewers for any votes cast, this time it appears to myself and to many other people that channel five and the producers of big brother have no intention of commenting and are continuing to charge for voting which is irrelevant to the outcome of the competion. I would ask that you look into this matter on my behalf, yours faithfuly, Mrs. D. Travis.
