i love walking through costco and eating all the samples. i dont love sampling the fried rice and having a woman stare at me and say, isnt that SO good? you should try the asian noodles in the next aisle. im sure youll LOVE them too. my filipino friend makes them so good! i always forget that people see my outsides first. and truly, its OK. i know i have a different, not-what-you-mostly-see outside (at least in the area i live in). and, i like and i embrace my outsides. but whats hard, still at 40, is when there are assumptions made about who i am, because of my outsides. like, that i LOVE fried rice and asian noodles. many of you have heard me talk about stereotypes (generalizations) and prejudices (judgments) and that we need to be aware of, careful, considerate, thoughtful about our stereotypes and prejudices, that we need to hold them loosely. so, im reminded again today, that americas story is my story - is OUR story. we have been shaped. we are shaping. so...lets be the kind of people who step into the world as curious learners rather than with presumptuous ignorance. #wednesdayrant
