i met the pocket gopher living in our garden today ... face to face, out in the open. i had just finished dinner, and he was in the middle of his ... eating our lovely, native, ornamental grasses. hes about the size of a hamster, and its hard to imagine how one little guy (im sure hes a bachelor) is causing our new garden to vanish, plant by plant. when i met him & chatted with him, i realized i liked him and that this is his home, just like its my home. i brought him some fresh kale and a big piece of apple. i asked him to chew just a bit of the plants, so that they can grow back, instead of eating entire plants from the roots up. lets see what wonder this allows to happen. i grew up with plenty of pet rodents, and i enjoy them. they seek value-fulfillment, as we do.
