i received a fundraising solicitation from Joan Crockatt, Calgary Centre the other day. heres my reply: Dear Joan Crockatt, I am not sure how you obtained my email address, but I do not appreciate being solicited for money by a member of a party that has decimated Canadas environmental legislation and protections, social safety net, veterans benefits, national archives and reputation abroad. Not only this, but your party has cheapened the electoral process and weakened the agency entrusted to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process for all Canadians. You have also degraded the meaning of citizenship and fostered an atmosphere of xenophobia and fear. It is laughable that you should trumpet the so-called fiscal conservativeness of your party, when the record clearly shows the fiscal irresponsibility of the Conservative party. You pinch pennies and waste pounds. You spend thousands, if not millions, of public revenue lobbying abroad on behalf of the oil and gas industry while ignoring the very real and prescient concerns of Canadian citizens over the environmental impacts of that industry. You eliminate crucial scientific research and public services to save mere millions while spending many times those amounts on misleading advertisements, ill-guided military expenditures and aggressive military missions. Rather than being the strong and stable government you boast in your email, the Conservative party has proven to be self-serving, duplicitous, and bullying. Your use of omnibus bills and prorogation in order to circumvent the democratic process illustrates the contempt your party has not only for your colleagues in Parliament but for the citizenry as a whole, as does your use of national tragedies, such as the shooting on Parliament Hill and the youth suicides of Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons, to further your own political agenda. Furthermore, your partys unconditional and uncritical support of the government of Israel is in direct conflict with your mandate to govern on behalf and in the interest of Canadians and brings into question your partys loyalty to the land and people of Canada, as does your partys unconditional and uncritical support of the oil and gas industry as well as your aggressive and hostile actions towards First Nations and indigenous communities. The actions of your party has set Canada back decades and the impacts of this will be felt by many generations of Canadians to come in the form of our health and quality of life. Your party does not lead with a vision of the future for all Canadians but with an agenda to benefit select industries and your own ideology, with no regard for the public interest or wellbeing. You have wasted the trust of Canadians and trashed our heritage in the process. Four more years of majority - or minority - rule by a Conservative government would be a disaster for the country. Accordingly, please remove me from your mailing list as well as any databases which your party may be using to track citizens and their voting propensities. I trust I will not be receiving any misleading calls nor any other form of misinformation during the next election cycle from any member, employee or contractor of your party.
