i think the things that make andrew dominiks gangsterism as metaphor for failed capitalism noir seem a tad too on the nose right now are the same things that will make it seem like the enduring, gritty 70s style classic it plays like today. except it will seem stronger without the obama, mcccain imagery film calling too much attention to itself (hey its a metaphor for RIGHT NOW!) after some time has past. meaning people will see the film as an artifact and wont feel like its being preachy. and...to be clear...thats a minor quibble with a dark, richly textured film that makes very few obvious choices. of course this all depends on the planet still being inhabitable by human beings a couple decades from now.
