i thought this must be fake, but check out wikipedia photo at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maned_Wolf_11,_Beardsley_Zoo,_2009-11-06.jpg - or thought maybe a chupacabra or something? --- This mammal is found in open and semi-open habitats, especially grasslands with scattered bushes and trees, in south, central-west and south-eastern Brazil (Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Goiás, São Paulo, Federal District and recently Rio Grande do Sul), Paraguay, northern Argentina, Bolivia east and north of the Andes,[4] and far south-eastern Peru (Pampas del Heath only).[5] It is very rare in Uruguay, being possibly extirpated.[2] IUCN lists it as near threatened,[2] while it is considered vulnerable by the Brazilian government (IBAMA). It is the only species in the genus Chrysocyon (meaning Golden Dog). It is locally known as aguará guazú (meaning large fox in the Guarani language), or kalak by the Toba, lobo de crin, lobo de los esteros or lobo colorado, and as lobo-guará in Brazil. It is also called borochi in Bolivia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maned_wolf via Green Renaissance: Despite being called a wolf and resembling a fox, the Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) is not closely related to any other living canine and is the only member of the Chrysocyon genus. The Maned Wolf is on the IUCN red list of endangered species. Habitat destruction is the main threat to maned wolves. They have almost no natural enemies, but nevertheless are in great danger because they need wide, uninterrupted spaces. In addition, people kill the Maned Wolf for its body parts, believed to have magical properties.
