i used to live in ford factory, which shares a parking lot with murder kroger. back then, this was just part of generic midtown, but now called the old fourth ward. when i lived there, the old sears building (the new ponce city market) was empty. my loft faced that building, with old, almost never used train tracks (now the shiny, happy beltline) between. often, i could see quite the soap opera going on out on the tracks with the various homeless people who used it (ask me to tell you about are you ashamed of our love? sometime). there is currently a new mural going up on the side of the murder kroger. im torn by the changes going on in this area. it is nice that it is now relatively safe to travel around (i used to walk to masquerade behind kroger in the middle of the night, which was taking your life into your hands) and that there is so much artwork going up (also sculptures back there on the beltline)...but it does annoy me that all these starbucks-sipping hipsters who live here now dont appreciate the history. in fact, newbs to the area refer to this kroger as the beltline kroger. anywho...i always love to see in-progress photos of murals. this one will be incredible once it is finished. The Loss Prevention doing a great job.
