i was born at the old kings daughters hospital in march of 1958.i think that staunton was beginning to change when i was old enough to know what and were places were.Montgomery wards,Firestone,Leggetts,mrs vames candyland,steels lunch,joes hotsdogs,a&p grocery store,the krogers store,i could go on and on but i grew up in staunton and the park was my home away from home.2 of my uncles worked at basic witzz,my grand worked for the city of staunton.my dad worked for western state hospital for 46 years and thats were he retired at.i remember when greenville avenue was just a 2 lane road and when they started to build the shopping center.correct me if i am wrong but i think they moved harrys lunch twice.i loved it then but i wish i could have lived in the 50s.
