if you are in a hardcore band and can answer emails, social networking messages, phone calls, and/or text messages about booking your band in a timely fashion.. you probably do not need a booking agent. if youre just lazy or too cool to answer those messages or calls, youre not in need of a booking agent, youre just an asshole. if you can hold a promoter accountable for a guarantee, you probably do not need a booking agent. if the promoter doesnt follow through, dont work with the promoter again - the same way a booking agent wouldnt. if you are not a heavily touring band, you probably do not need a booking agent. on the flip side, if youre someone who gets your friends bands on shows on their behalf and call yourself a booking agent... youre not. youre a friend doing what friends are supposed to do by helping each other out. dont get me wrong - there are definitely bands that have a necessity for booking agents... but honesty, chances are, that yours isnt one of them. if you think your band DOES need an agent, i would get off your ass and start making some moves of your own instead of having someone hold your hand the entire way like a spoiled rich kid through a mall. get out there and earn your name, hold it down, and dont take the front-running, fast-tracked, easy way out.
