Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy” (Psalm 96:11-12). Welcome to the concert of inanimate objects. If you obey the speed limit, the road will sing to you. Literally. Musical highways are popping up around the world. Drivers hear the melody only when they maintain the correct speed. Curiosity compels drivers to comply with the speed limit. They want to ‘play’ the tune with their car. The man-made phenomenon helped me realize how I can have a song in my heart. The secret is aligning my pace with God’s. If I try to accomplish more than my body can handle, I pay later. Exhaustion forces me to recover. On the other hand, if I shut down in discouragement, I pay a different price. Self-pity or depression sets in. Why do I accelerate too much or downshift? Sometimes it’s because I haven’t fully accepted God’s plan. Other times I still try to be the one in control. The key is to synchronize my pace with God’s timing. To match my desires to His plans. Only then will I find true contentment in Him. As I learn to yield to Him, I find greater contentment. God’s people knew how to yield and follow. They wandered in the wilderness without a GPS or map to guide them. Only God’s pillar of smoke. When it moved, they moved. Why is it difficult to yield? Pain, cognition issues, and fatigue make it hard to sing for joy. How I want to bend to His will and rejoice in His power. One of my friends shows me how. Donna lives life with a song in her heart. With love that cannot be contained, worship songs burst forth from her lips regularly–just like creation. “Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy” (Psalm 98:8). Prayer: Heavenly Father, Fill my heart to overflowing with Your joy. Psalm 40:3 is my desire. Create in me a new song so I can say, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
