im pretty unapologetic about this... I AM INDIGENOUS... (yes I am half white as well) but unless you start recognizing that I AM INDIGENOUS...you will never truly be my friend. I have been allowed to live a portion of my life in a privileged setting... yes, with my father from 9-18 (except summer and holidays...yes folks.. my holidays were a step backward... i had to come to Canada where my Mom struggled from being marginalized and a residential school survivor...NOT the kind of vacation YOU want to send your kid on is it?), but what you dont know, is that I was different to everyone there as well.... accepted... as the eskimo girl.... and novelty of the community.. did I ever connect with ONE indigenous person while I lived in Michigan... my WHOLE entire life? NOPE.... my family and cousins and never made me feel like i was different, i always had solace in my family.... but as soon as i stepped out of their shadows of protection.... rest assured, i was made to feel different. and now... I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME... and if you dont... meh, im okay with that. Nakkumek... AKKLAKUVUNGA!!!!
