im working on a story on how the Obama administration has pussyfooted around the subject of violations of the laws of war in the bombing and shelling of entire neighborhoods in Gaza and the targeting of buildings clearly identified as shelters for civilians and therefore explicitly unlawful targets. Ive just read more than three weeks of questions and and answers on the subject of the Israeli attacks in the daily State Department press briefings, and it makes extremely depressing reading. Even after the Israeli bombing of the UN shelter for Gaza internal refugees and the denunciation of it by UNRWA officials, the State Department has still refused to issue a flat statement that Israel must not bomb such shelters again or to say that there are any real consequences for doing so! We are witnessing the truly pathetic spectacle of a state that has thrown away its moral compass because of its incestuous relationship with a client state.
