imdorissa.gov.in/Informatory Bulletin Date and Time of Issue: 12.10.2014 AT 1000EF Information on Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HUDHUD”:Cyclone Warning-Fifteen (RED MESSAGE) for South Odisha Coast The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘HUDHUD’ over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 15 kmph during the last 06 hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of 12th October 2014 near latitude 17.4ºN and longitude 83.8ºE, about 60 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam and 240 km Southwest of Gopalpur. The system would move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast close to Visakhapatnam around noon of today, the 12th October 2014. Forecast : Rain/Thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha during next 48 hours. Heavy R/F Warning : Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Gajpati, Kalahandi, Nayagarh,Khurda,Puri,Nawapara,Boudh,Bolangir, Sonepur and Phulbani of South Odisha during next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in districts of North Odisha during same period and heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in districts of North Odisha in subsequent 24 hours. Advice for hoisting Storm Warning Signals: Local Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) kept hoisted at all ports in Odisha. Likely impacts and actions: Squally wind speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph would prevail along & off South Odisha coasts .Sea condition would be very rough to high along and off South Odisha Coasts. Action Suggested: South Odisha coasts- (Ganjam, Gajapati,Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts) Damage to thatched huts. Breaking of tree branches causing minor damage to power and communication lines. Uprooting of small trees. Damage to agricultural crops. People in affected areas to remain at safe places on 12th October,2014 Fishermen Warning :- Total suspension of fishing operations along and off Odisha Coast.Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea. Post Landfall Outlook:- Even after landfall the system would maintain the intensity of very severe cyclonic storm for 6 hours and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm in subsequent 6 hours while moving northwestwards across south interior Odisha and Chattisgarh. Under its influence rainfall at most places with heavy falls at a few places would occur over south Odisha and isolated heavy to very heavy falls over north Odisha. Gale wind speed reaching 100-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph would also prevail for 6 hours after landfall and 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph for subsequent 6 hours over Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts of Odisha. Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would also prevail for next 12 hours after landfall over rest districts of south Odisha. TOO-12/1000 EF
