imi was an innovator , the right man at the right time who took self defense army training , modified it to civilian training and brought it to the public. many say he was also a special personality,which is great as well . no one can argue he was special . but imi will not save u in a street fight . no matter your linkage to imi the test must be very simple- do u as an instructor manage to bring the larger bulk of your students to a reasonable ability to defend them selves (physically, mentally,operationally in all fight levels meaning pre ,during and after the fight )? do u as an individual student feel that u r able to better perform under stress due to your training? krav maga is a name,what we really learn is self defense. if u follow basic elements and principles and understand not only what u do, but the problems u r facing u r on the right path in learning it,and if u mix it up with other fighting systems i see it only as a plus not a minus . i did not know imi but i do not see it as an handicap(i would have been happy too but i did not ) , i do not cling to no ones name as i know that me and my students will have to deal by our selves with what life throw at us. train hard and stay safe oss
