in 1891, on the recommendation of the Council of the Imperial Theatres, Marius Petipa wrote the plot of a new ballet called The Nutcracker, later set to music by PI Tchaikovsky. The subject was based on the famous fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King of Hoffmann, adapted to children and transformed into a ballet-tale. The ballet was staged in 1892 by Lev Ivanov, second ballet master of the Mariinsky Theatre. The dance of the snowflakes got particularly successful. The version of Vajnonen (1934), drawing on the indications and the traditions of Petipa, achieved great success thanks to the warm atmosphere, the exciting scenes of children, the wonderful dance of the snowflakes and the beautiful divertissement last act thanks Save the Classic
